Deepika Padukone : Breaking the Silence on Depression
Deepika was at the peak of her career when she first realized something was wrong. Despite her success, she felt empty, exhausted, and emotionally numb. She described it as a “heavy, dark cloud” that wouldn’t lift, even when everything in her life seemed perfect.
How She Coped :
– Professional Help : Deepika sought therapy and was diagnosed with clinical depression. She has always emphasized that mental health struggles are not a sign of weakness just like physical illness, they need proper treatment.
– Medication & Self-Care : Along with therapy, she took prescribed medication, which she credits as a crucial part of her recovery. She also prioritized sleep, exercise, and setting boundaries in her work life.
– Starting a Conversation : In 2015, she founded The Live Love Laugh Foundation, a mental health initiative that works to reduce stigma and provide resources for those struggling.
Her message? “It’s okay to not be okay. But it’s not okay to suffer in silence.”
